The Resto That Started It All

I was thrilled when I stepped off the plane at JFK Airport the fateful June morning in 2011. I was in the city of my dreams and a foodie’s paradise. The mental list of restaurants in my head was already piling up and I knew there were still a million little hole-in-the-walls to explore. I was very excited for my very first New York Restaurant Week as an actual New Yorker. The first stop in my foodie adventure was Tom Collichio’s Collichio & Sons in the Meatpacking District.

It was fabulous! We didnt order fr the prix fixe menu since they didnt have it on Sundays. The ambiance was really really fantastic. The decor was really nice. Dark wood, floor to ceiling glass windows where you can watch the people outside play in the park next door, clever paintings on the wall, and it had a very masculine feel to it. It felt like quite a grown-up place.

We had the reisling flight and tried three different reislings. All were amazing! Nice and summery and perfect. We had shared an appetizer, the salmon. Extremely fresh, citrusy and light. I got the flat iron steak (im a sucker for thin cut steaks) for my entree. I shouldve gotten it medium but got it medium well.Too cooked, but then again that’s my fault. It was really good though. It came with onions and potatoes on the side which I believe were grilled. They were amazing! Seasoned well and the .onions were nice and sweet. My friend got the sea food bowl. It was really good, light sauce, and really refreshing dish.

The prices were extremely reasonable. I was sooooo surprised. It was even dinner too! Two courses, an appetizer and two flights of wine for abt 100 bucks. thats a deal for such a nice place! im definitely a fan…

After this lovely experience, I was hooked. How many more fabulous restaurants are there in the city? Join me in my adventure in the wonderland that is New York that I now call my home!
