Housing a tortoise is not an easy task, there are the myriad of things that need to be met if you do not want to end up with an unhealthy animal. Choosing the right type of best tortoise enclosure will simplifying quite a lot your work.
In order to save your time of reading all the lengthy reviews, I would like to recommend here two reliable tortoise enclosures: ROCKEVER Tortoise House Habitat and Zoo Med Tortoise House.
#1 Tortoise Tables
Both Rockever and Zoo med tortoise house are tortoise tables. This is the most popular and also the best way to house your tortoises. Basically, tortoise tables are a big wooden box with large floor space and fairly short sides. They are great enclosure to maintain temperature and provide well ventilation.
#2 Designed
Rockever and Zoo Med are well known retailer of reptile equipment. Rockever Tortoise House is made of solid fir wood and the metal grate. The enclosure includes two parts are a small covered compartment that can be use as hidden place for the tortoise and a bigger run area. The upper part of it is a screen door, you can mount the UVB bulb outside above the screen mesh. It’s also lockable with a strong metal latch to protect your tortoise from predators.
The most interesting factor that make me love to use Rockever enclosure is that it is modular. It allows you to take off one of the side panels and link with the other tortoise tables to create a bigger space when your pet grow. However, the drawback is that the run areas of Rockever does not have a bottom.
Zoo Med tortoise house, in my view, has the best value for the price. Like Rockever, this Zoo Med wooden enclosure is also separated into two areas: an open part with screen mesh for well ventilation and a private part. The secure lockable screen wire will ensure the safety of your pets that prevent them from escape and no chance for predators getting to it.
It is also an expandable, modular design, which allow you remove the side panel and connect it with another enclosure to double the cage’s size.
#3 Dimensions
Zoo Med enclosure has the size 37″ x 25″ x 13″. It is quite small and not suitable for the larger types of tortoises. If you want a bigger space, you will need to buy two houses and connect them by removing the end panel.
While Rockever enclosure is 40.2 x 36 x 14.2 inches. It has plenty of space for tortoise to roam around.
